I am Carolyn Blair, Counseling Department Chair at CHS. I am pleased to present an amazing team of counselors and staff for your support here at CHS. Please take time to acquaint yourself with us and the website.
I am one of the College Counselors in the office, (I work with students with the last names A-J). I have spent many years in the field of education. After working in college admissions while completing a Masters in Counseling a UM-St. Louis, I began college counseling at St. Louis University High School in 1997. I continue to serve on numerous boards and committees within the field of college counseling. I have served on the board for ACT for the last 8 years, and am currently secretary of the board. I have had many roles in the past 12 years with the Missouri Association of college Admission Counselors, including Chair of the Human Relations Committee, Assembly Delegate to the National Association of College Admissions Counselors, Professional Development Committee. I sit on the Advisory Board for Miami University and University of Indiana as well as having served the University of Missouri-Kansas City as advisory council for Kansas City Public School's college counseling curriculum. I am an active member of/ and school representative to the College Board. I spend my summers volunteering at College Summit, a college preparatory workshop for low income students.
We in the counseling department hope to provide assistance and guidance for all students as they are developing the knowledge and skills needed to be lifelong learners and make successful contribution to the local, national, and global communities.
Alice Morrison is returning to CHS after ten years as a counselor at Wydown Middle School. After teaching science in the Rockwood School District, she came to Clayton to teach physic and biology. She moved to the middle school and has dedicated herself to supporting middle school students academically, emotionally, and socially. Mrs. Morrison has been one of the Counseling Curriculum Coordinators for the district and has assisted in the development of curriculum that meets and exceeds state and national standards. She holds a Master in Counseling from the University of Missouri and is working on her National Board Certification. Mrs. Morrison spends time outside of school biking and backpacking with her family.
Anthony Henderson's educational experience spans more than fourteen years in a variety of educational settings, which include schools and a hospital. In those settings, he has had the opportunity to work with all age groups. He comes to Clayton High School from Captain Elementary where he taught third grade for the past seven years. His dedication to the Captain community made him well respected by colleagues, parents, and students. Mr. Henderson holds a Master of Education degree from National-Louis University in Chicago and a Master of Education in Counseling degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. When not at work, you can find Mr. Henderson enjoying time with family and friends.
Mark Snyder (B.A. Truman State Univ.-1994, M.S.Ed. Missouri Baptist Unvi.-2005) has spent most of his career assisting students and adults to realize their personal and vocational goals. He has brought this passion to several helping professions as a family services caseworker, a career counselor for persons with special needs, a special education instructor, and, most recently, a high school counselor. Outside of work, he devotes his time to his wife and four children. Mr. Snyder enjoys listening to nearly all styles of music, and he has performed as a bassist and guitar player for the last 20 years. In addition, he is a sports enthusiast who swims and plays basketball and volleyball in his spare time.
Chat Leonard has worked in public schools for thirty years in suburban St. Louis. Her first year in education began at Kirkwood High, where she taught speech and theatre for one year. For twenty years she was a counselor at Parkway South High and has spent the past ten years as a college counselor at Clayton High in the School District of Clayton, where she also student taught in the mid-70?. Mrs. Leonard earned a B.A. in Speech/Theatre, a Master of Education degree in counseling from the University from the University of Missouri, and pursued doctoral level work in counseling at St. Louis University. Mrs. Leonard is a member of the national Association for College Admissions Counseling. Missouri Association for College Admissions Counseling (MOACAC) and the College Board. During the Spring 2002 MOACAC conference, Mrs. Leonard was presented with the Peggy Clinton Memorial Award, which recongnizes a colleague for exemplary work in the college admission profession each year. She has presented at numerous MOACAC conference, the state ACT conference, the state PTO conference and at NACAC conference as a Human Relations representative. For NACAC, she served on the National Human Relations Committee. Mrs. Leonard has been asked to serve on the Admission Advisory Board for St. Louis University, University of Tulsa, and the national College Board? Task Force on Admissions in the 21st Century. Mrs. Leonard is a member of St. Monica Catholic Church. Mrs. Leonard lives in suburban St. Louis with her husband Jesse, their son Jarod, and Bo, the 13 year-old family dachshund. In her spare time, she works out at her health club attends professional and college athletic events. As a former choreographer, Chat always makes time to attend theatrical productions in St. Louis and when she is in New York City. Mrs. Leonard will work with students with the last names Hj-T.
Tobie Smith Tobie Smith is the newest counselor to join the CHS team, working with the Class of 2011. After graduating from University of Missouri-St. Louis in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts, General Studies (Political Science, Human Resources, Education), she worked as a career counselor and recruiter. Her passion has always been in education, so when the opportunity presented itself, she began pursuing her Master of Education in School Counseling degree at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Upon graduation in 2005, she accepted a position as an elementary counselor for the St. Louis Public Schools. The following year, she began working with Ninth Graders. Her career has led her to Clayton School District and she couldn’t be more excited! In 2007, she was accepted into the Doctor of Education – School Counselor Education and Supervision program at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. Upon graduation, she will be the first to receive a Doctorate Degree in School Counseling in the country. Tobie has embraced this new role in her professional development. She is thrilled to embark upon an exciting career at Clayton High School. Tobie is also the parent to two sons, Max (5) and Sam (3) and loves spending time with them and her husband in her limited spare time!
